Welcome to the Southern Consortium 16+ e-Prospectus.

The Southern Consortium is one of the most exciting places within the borough of Barking and Dagenham to continue your sixth form education. There are a wide range of subjects on offer. Subjects are offered across all four school sixth forms. You can study all your subjects at one site OR you can move between sites (using the free transport provided), studying subjects in all four places.

All the school sixth forms have excellent facilities including state of the art computers, study spaces, lounge areas, vending machines and sixth form toilets.

The staff are professional, friendly and helpful. Sixth formers are expected to behave like maturing adults and staff treat them as maturing adults.

The Southern Consortium offers a healthy balance between rigorous academic study, and developing other important skills required to become a global citizen.

Activities include:

  • Team building and problem solving trip to Blackland Farm in East Grinstead.
  • Visit to the Higher Education Fair in Central London
  • One to one support regarding university applications and career development
  • Seminars regarding study at University.

A message from the Directors of Sixth Form …

We have a fantastic job; working with students of all abilities and backgrounds: helping them to define their goals and supporting them as they mature into independent learners.

Students in the Southern Consortium enjoy high quality support from specialist sixth form tutors, learning mentors, administrators and leaders. The whole sixth form team work together to support you through difficult times. They are ready to celebrate with you as you succeed and achieve.

If you join the Southern Consortium you will be part of a school community and a sixth form community. There will be many chances to develop imagination, consideration, responsibility and leadership. You can take up opportunities offered to you and you can follow your own passions.

Students from our consortium sixth form progress on to universities and colleges such as Portsmouth, Manchester and Cambridge. There are musicians and engineers, business students and criminologists, biochemists and lawyers, dancers and historians.

What OFSTED have to say ……

Sydney Russell School November 2008

Sixth form students attain standards which are broadly average and show good achievement, as seen in the 2008 examination results. Standards were highest in media studies, in which all candidates attained A to C grades, reflecting the school's specialist strength. As a result of strengthened partnerships between the schools in the joint sixth form consortium, the curriculum is now broad and better balanced. A wide variety of A-level subjects and an increased range of vocational courses are provided. Teaching is good, characterised by the ability to engage students actively in learning. Students feel well cared for, guided and supported, due to very good pastoral care and the frequency and thoroughness of academic support. High quality careers guidance helps them to prepare very well for their future. Over three quarters of students in Year 13 go on to university.

Jo Richardson Community School November 2008

Sixth form students value the level of support they receive from teachers and enjoy their lessons. The consortium arrangement extends the variety of subjects on offer and provides centres of excellence... Students completing one-year courses at Level 2 did very well in 2008. Students benefit from the same high level of care and support as in the main school... Students' personal development and well-being is good. While there is a good range of enrichment activity available

Eastbury School June 2007

The school rightly seeks to raise students' aspirations by encouraging them to stay on in the sixth form. Consortium arrangements lead to a wide range of courses being available…

Dagenham Park Church of England School November 2008

'Our school gives opportunities to everyone', commented a student. This view echoes that of most post-16 students and reflects the school's efforts to provide a truly inclusive sixth form. Standards have risen each year since the last inspection…. Achievement is satisfactory overall but good in the wide range of applied and vocational courses… Students are particularly successful in the school's specialist arts areas. Many sixth formers willingly take on a range of responsibilities within school and provide excellent support for younger students. They contribute well to the wider community and much appreciate the extensive range of enrichment activities offered by Dagenham Park and the other consortium schools.
