AS/A2 Level AQA ICT


Prior level of attainment and recommended prior learning.

The A/AS specifications in Information and Communication Technology have been developed to enable students who have followed a course in the National Curriculum Information Technology to continue their studies at a higher level. It could enhance career opportunities or provide a coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study for students who do not progress to further study in the subject.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade C in  GCSE Maths is essential.

AS level ICT

The AS will comprise three teaching and learning modules, two assessed by examination and one through coursework.

It may be used in one of two ways:

  • as a final qualification, allowing candidates to broaden their studies and to defer decisions about specialism;

  • as the first half (50%) of an Advanced Level qualification, which must be completed before an Advanced Level award can be made.

A2 level ICT

The A2 will comprise three further teaching and learning modules, two assessed by examination and one through coursework.

Unit 3 - Coursework Project: (A solution to a task allowing candidates to demonstrate advanced knowledge of an applications package)
  • 40% of the total AS mark
  • 20% of the total A Level mark

Unit 4 - Examination Paper - 120 minutes (Short answer, structured questions and an essay)
  • 15% of the total A Level mark
Unit 5 - Examination paper - 120 minutes  (Short answer, structured questions and an essay)
  • 15% of the total A Level mark
Unit 6 - Coursework Project: (The project will require candidates to identify and research a realistic problem for a real end-user and develop an information system)
