Selecting a Course

Every student who wants to stay on in the Sixth Form has an individual interview with a senior member of staff to choose the options best suited to his/her talents and abilities.  Students should read carefully the comments on entry requirements for courses offered.  These requirements exist to ensure students accepted on a course will have a realistic opportunity of achieving success.

The final choice of the student's course may be influenced by the Summer examination results.  Students therefore confirm their courses, based on their GCSE results at the end of August.

We have to decide what resources to deploy for the Sixth Form and so need to make decisions prior to GCSE results.  Students are asked to make preliminary choices in February and at the latest by the end of March.  All courses depend upon viable numbers and whilst all the courses in this brochure are initially offered, student demand will determine whether or not they run.  Students can and do make changes after this date.  Usually we are able to accommodate these.

Following the Year 11 into 12 Information Evening, students have to make an initial commitment concerning their choice of course and subjects.  Individual interviews will be held for all students who intend returning to the Sixth Form

Induction Course

All prospective Sixth Form students are required to attend an Induction Course.

This is a compulsory requirement of returning to the Sixth Form.  The purpose of this course is to introduce prospective students to the Sixth Form Curriculum and to give them the opportunity to develop new academic, study and social skills that are essential to Sixth Form life.
