What is a BTEC National Award?
The BTEC National Award Performing Arts (Dance) is a practical and work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands found in the Performing Arts and Entertainment Industry. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career in Performing Arts.
The National Award course is equivalent to one A level which means when you have finished the course you can use it to get a job straight away or use it alongside other qualifications to go into higher education first.
This BTEC National Award Performing Arts (Dance) at Dagenham Park Community School is a full-time course and will take two years to complete. It will take up 5 hours of your timetable each week..
What are the entry requirements?
You will normally need to have at least one of the following:
a BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related Performing Arts subject
at least four GCSEs at grades A*-C
appropriate work experience or outside school experience.
What is the course structure?
The course is made up of eight units: a core unit which everyone takes, a compulsory specialist unit and further six specialist units.
The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in depth.

How is the course assessed?
All units are assessed and graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
You will be graded with one grade of PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION.
There are no written external examinations. All assessment is coursework based.
What can I do at the end of the course?
BTEC National Certificates are valued by employers and higher education (universities and colleges).
