How the course is assessed

All students must complete 6 units over 2 years. In year 12, all students must do 2 pieces of coursework and 1 externally assessed exam. These are compulsory units. In Year 13, there is 3 more units that must be done. All students must complete a compulsory piece of coursework and 2 exams. All exam topics are chosen by the department staff teaching each unit

Description of course

This is an Applied A Level business course and the outcomes are very good for all students who have taken this course as part of their studies in KS5. This course has a lot of scope to work with the students level of ability to gain very good overall grades. This course is half exams and half coursework and the balance between the two allows students to get a better over understanding of what is happening in the business world.

Suitable students and course entry criteria

All students must have at least a C in maths and english. Students with previous business knowledge from GCSE would be an advantage.

Higher education, future careers and progression routes

Applied Business is a very good foundation for students developing their career into the business world at work or at university. This course is very student oriented and it allows students to focus their attention to specifically business aspects.

What other students have said about the course

Very happy that I chose this course as I was targeted a B and will end up with an A*. The coursework is good but with the balance of exams it helped me to exceed my target grade.

This course has a lot of options in Year 12 and year 13 and this is why I chose it as we did not to stick to a set curriculum. The course work to students strengths and I had very good teachers who know how to get good grades in coursework and exams.
