Congratulations to Dagenham Park Sixth Form winners of the First Give Charity Final!

The Dagenham Park Sixth Form FIRST GIVE Final took place on 13th December 2017. Huge congratulations to the teams whose impressive, creative presentations contributed to a remarkable philanthropic evening with one team winning £1000 for their chosen charity -

Marjorie Collins Centre – a local branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society providing sufferers with the provision of therapies transport and support work.

It was a very special moment when the winners were announced by a distinguished judging panel which included Lee Waker a Councillor of Barking and Dagenham and prior student at Dagenham Park School. Lorna Lawrence a representative from the Marjorie Collins Centre also attended the evening and said “The students of Dagenham Park Sixth Form have been exemplary, it has been a pleasure to meet them and have them be so passionate about MS as a cause”

As part of SMSC and the Sixth Form Enhancement Programme, all of year 12 entered the competition for the charitable organisation FIRST GIVE. FIRST GIVE work in partnership with schools to help young people to give their time, tenacity and talents to improve their local communities. Their vision is to help build a new generation of motivated and switched-on young people who want to use their skills to support local charities and make the lives of others in and around their communities better.

The FIRST GIVE programme requires students to identify social issues in their area and engage with local charities that address them. The students must create a 5-minute presentation and use these to compete for £1,000 of grant money that they are able to donate to their charity of choice.

I am very proud of all the year 12 students that have taken part, their caring ethos and values have been exceptional throughout the FIRST GIVE process. Other charities represented on the evening were The Women Together Association supporting victims of domestic violence and The Triangle Community Services, supporting the elderly.
