16+ Life @ Sydney Russell

The 16+ Centre offers students the opportunity of continuing their studies in a way that is different to the rest of the school.  Students are treated as young adults and enjoy appropriate responsibilities and privileges.

Each student will have their own personal timetable and will be responsible for fulfilling a minimum number of academic lessons and monitored study periods.  Students will need to develop the habit of working independently and achieving a balance between studying and recreation.  The school aims to create a relaxed and liberal atmosphere in the 16+ Centre, and relies upon students behaving in a mature, responsible and adult way.  All students are asked to sign a Contract outlining the expectations that the school has of all students.

16+ students are expected to attend full time. Registers are taken daily and regular attendance and punctuality is expected as a pre-requisite for success.

Students are expected to wear smart, casual dress

As in every other year in the school a tutorial system is operated.  Each student is assigned to a tutor who will act as their academic mentor and oversee attendance, progress and welfare.  Students attend a 16+ assembly every week and are sometimes invited to other assemblies to give presentations.

A 16+ Committee exists and meets regularly to discuss 16+ issues and to organise social activities and charity fund-raising events.

Representatives from the four schools also formulate a Consortium Committee to deal with Consortium issues.
