Full time programme

Level: 1 & 2 Programme length: 2 years

Programme summary:

This programme provides you with the opportunity to develop a basic understanding of the skills needed to work in the Hair industry, under supervision.

Year 2 – Successful completion of year 1 with over 80% attendance achieved will continue the course in year 2. A high technical ability will be mandatory.

Methods of teaching and learning:

We want you to enjoy your time at Dagenham Park Community School and to be successful as a hairdresser. You will have a daily mixture of theory and practical lessons to improve your literacy skills and knowledge and develop basic hairdressing skills.

You will be supported throughout the qualification to achieve to your highest ability (pass, credit or distinction). You will be set agreed daily targets to reach which will be clear to you to focus on for each individual day. Your targets and your achievement will be monitored on a daily and weekly basis to ensure that your learning is successful and so that you are clear as to how well you are progressing.

You will need to monitor your progress too. We want you to become self-critical and think about how you can improve. We will expect you to work hard and productive every lesson and to meet your daily target before you finish for the day. Home study will also need to be completed on a weekly basis.

On-line multiple choice tests set by City & Guilds x 15

Additional materials:

Most equipment will be provided free of charge from Dagenham Park School and will be your responsibility to return items as good as new on a daily basis. A list of hairdressing equipment will also be issued to you to purchase to help you practice your skills learnt at 6TH Form & home. Funding may be available for this.

Further learning and career options:

Successful completion of level 1, over 80% attendance and punctuality with a high level of technical skills could lead onto the 2nd year level 2 in Hairdressing at Dagenham Park Community School 6th Form. After completion of the full 2 year course progression onto level 3 Diploma in hairdressing or full time employment in a salon as a junior stylist, mobile hairdresser, cutting or colouring technician. You may also decide to complete a 1 year course NVQ level 2 in Beauty Therapist at Dagenham Park 6th Form.
