The Sixth Form offers students the opportunity of continuing their studies in a way that is different to the rest of the school. Students are treated as young adults and enjoy appropriate responsibilities and privileges.
Each student will have their own personal timetable and will be responsible for fulfilling a minimum number of academic lessons and monitored study periods. Students will need to develop the habit of working independently and achieving a balance between studying and recreation. The school aims to create a relaxed and liberal atmosphere in the Sixth Form, and relies upon students behaving in a mature, responsible and adult way. All students are asked to sign a Contract outlining the expectations that the school has of all Sixth Formers.
Sixth Form students are expected to attend full time but are accorded the privilege of being able to leave the school premises when they are free to study in local libraries or at home during non contact lessons. Registers are taken daily and regular attendance and punctuality is expected as a pre-requisite for success. Students are expected to wear smart, casual dress. The only exception to the above is students studying BTEC Sports and Fitness who can wear smart tracksuits on the days when they have practical lessons.
As in every other year in the school a tutorial system is operated. Each student is assigned to a tutor who will act as their academic mentor and oversee attendance, progress and welfare. Students attend a Sixth Form assembly every week and are sometimes invited to other assemblies to give presentations.
A Sixth Form Committee exists and meets regularly to discuss Sixth Form issues and to organise social activities and charity fund-raising events.
Representatives from the four schools also formulate a Consortium Committee to deal with Consortium issues.
