Outline of the Course

The 12 unitNational Certificate in Business provides a specialist work related programme of study which will prepare students for both work and Higher Education. The course provides progression onto a Higher National or a Business related degree. It is equivalent to 2 A levels.

The course is 100% course work based, with no examinations. External Verifiers are sent out from edexcel to maintain quality assurance.

Students have to complete 12 units, 5 of which are compulsory and set by the board. Two of the compulsory units are externally assessed. They are known as IVA’s and are worth double points. The other 7 can be selected from a wide range of available modules.

Within JRCS students participate in the Young Enterprise programme. This supports the BTEC course and provides the vocational element.

Careers and further study

Business Studies can provide a route into a wide range of careers. This can include retail management, customer service, the police force and local Government. The course provides work related skills that employers welcome.

A qualification in Business also provides a very wide range of opportunities for courses in Management, Finance, Law and ICT at degree level. As a subject which emphasises creativity, communication, teamwork and evaluation, Business Studies is provides lots of future options.

What is the Level 3  National Diploma in Business?

This qualification equips you with a comprehensive understanding of the essential knowledge and skills needed to help you embark on a wide variety of business careers, and specifically focuses on the area of business administration. The  National Diploma will educate you in the various occupational routes available in business administration, helping you to progress to a more prominent position if already in employment, or move on to further study.

The course is designed to be adaptable to your needs, abilities and career aspirations: it consists of four compulsory core units plus a choice of fourteen specialist units totalling 1080 guided learning hours. The structure of the course allows you to focus on your interests, and the areas which you feel will benefit you most, such as managing business information, understanding legal aspects of administration or starting a small business. Please note that the units studied may vary to meet local or learner needs.

Where will this qualification take me?

Employment opportunities

With the international recognition of  courses such as this, you can progress straight into employment. If successful there are a variety of potential careers that you can explore, all of which will benefit from your studies, for example: school administrative assistant, investment administrator or facilities manager.

Further vocational and academic qualifications

The  National Diploma in Business (Administration) has the equivalence of three GCE A Levels, and it is possible for you to progress further into higher education, as successful National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications.

Business National Diploma @ SRS

Nationals in Business Level 3 Students who chose to study business at level 3 continue to develop their work related skills and knowledge, but now progress to more advanced topics such as strategic management, customer service and marketing.

The amount of detail increases, as students take a more in-depth look at the business world and gain an excellent all round understanding of the challenges and rewards it offers.

Qualification structure

The Nationals in Business at level 3 are offered as a triple award qualification known as the Extended Diploma.

Assessment

All work is internally assessed through the means of written coursework. There are no external tests or examinations.
