AS/A Level Applied Art @ DP

(2 year course. 12 lessons each week)

The course is a double A Level and is suited to students who have a firm commitment to Art & Design and have a proven track record in the subject. The course will lead directly to Art School, or employment within the Art & Design sector. This is achieved by ensuring that students develop general skills and present high quality work in all the units covered.

Students will cover 12 equally- weighted units

Year 12

Students cover six units

  • 2D and 3D Visual Language.
  • Materials, Techniques and Technology.
  • Visual Communication and Meaning
  • Working in 2D
  • Working in 3D
  • Develop Set Ideas

Year 13

Students cover a further six units

  • Produce set ideas.
  • Personal and Portfolio development
  • Contextual reference
  • Professional Practice
  • Develop and Produce Own Ideas
  • Fine Art or Design or Multimedia

The aims of the course are:-

  • To acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding, as well as language, needed to create, develop and present high quality work.
  • To understand art and design methods and principles.
  • Use primary and secondary sources.
  • Understand how creative focuses are inter-related and influence each other, and explore working methods linked to industry practice.
  • To apply working methods used by sector professionals, both as individuals and as part of a team, as well as with clients, commissioners and audiences.
  • To independently explore how meaning is communicated through creative and reflective experimentation with media and materials.
  • To develop ways of working that emphasise practical independence, self-directed learning and how to improve practice over time.
