AS Textiles

GCE Textiles Technology. (Design and Technology; Product design)

This course allows you to develop your knowledge, understanding, skills and application for designing textiles products. Textiles Technology encompasses a wide range of design disciplines but is firmly rooted in the skills required to design and make high quality products- products that are fit for purpose, satisfy wants and needs, and, most importantly, give you the opportunity to demonstrate your design and make capability.

The qualification structure allows you to develop a range of skills and outcomes at AS level which will demonstrate your creativity and you will be able to apply these to a design and make project at A2.

There are 2 Units at AS level;

Unit 1- Portfolio of Creative skills which is internally assessed and externally moderated by the examboard-Edexcel.

Unit 2-Design and Technology in practise which is an external assessment- 1-hour 30-minute examination.

At A2 there are a further 2 units;

Unit 3- Designing for the future a 2 hour external examination.

Unit 4- Commercial Design a portfolio based on a design and make project. You will be working in a well established department with a team of dedicated and creative teachers.

There will be opportunities to work with professionals as we have strong links with the fashion industry, visits including the Clothes show and helping to organise the Eastbury Style Show.
