Law is a lively and interesting subject to study. Although it forms a good introduction to the legal world it is not necessary to have completed the course to study for a law at university! All universities accept students to study law with a range of A level subjects.
Unit 1. Law Making and the Legal System.
Section A Law Making. Topics studied include, Parliamentary Law making (how laws are made), Statutory Interpretation (how judges describe the law), Judicial Precedent and Delegated Legislation (how public bodies make laws).
Section B Legal System. Topics studied include, the Judiciary (judges), the Legal profession (barristers, solicitors and their training), the Civil Court system (tribunals, arbitration, mediation, conciliation and negotiation) and the Criminal Court system (role of magistrates and jurors).
Unit 2. The Concept of Liability
Section A Criminal Liability. Topics studied include Actus Reus and Mens Rae, non–fatal offences against the person including assault, battery, a.b.h. and g.b.h. Court procedure including sentencing for those offences studied.
Section B Liability in Negligence. Topics studied include Duty of Care, Breach and Damage. Court procedure and the awarding of damages.
