About the course
The course has been designed to encourage you to take a board view of Design & Technology. It also helps prepare you to participate in, think about and intervene creatively to improve the quality of tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies. The course will provide you with the opportunity to learn through practical activities while producing solutions to systems and control based problems.
Key Elements:
In the first year you’ll have two assessments. A two hour written paper covers Unit 1 (materials, components and applications) and accounts for 50% of your marks for the year. The coursework (design portfolio and manufactured outcome) from Unit 2 accounts for the remaining 50% of your first year marks. A pass in year one is recognised with an AS level. Year two is the same. A two hour written paper covers Unit 3 (design and manufacture) and accounts for 50% of you’re a level marks for the year. The coursework (design portfolio and manufactured outcome) from Unit 4 accounts for the other 50% of your marks.
